Matt - Band Interview

What first drew you to metal, and which bands had the biggest influence on your sound?

from a very young age I've been drawn to Groove music like early Motown and Northern soul, so when I started to hear early metal and rock bands like Thin Lizzy and Wasp, I was immediately on the hunt to discover my own path with early bands like Rage Against The Machine, Deftones and Meshuggah.

Then really discovering the underground metal scene, especially around Bristol, really inspired me to start making my own heavy music. Bands like Converge, Pig

Destroyer and Conan really shaped my tone and discovery for absolute sonic destruction on all levels.

Do you remember the moment you decided music was something you wanted to dedicate your life to?

I was at Temples festival in Bristol with a lineup to end all lineups and witnessed in close quarters what it takes to just level a room to the ground.

To see such sonic perfection in all its beautiful glory was really a turning point for me…. Suddenly I wanted to be the guy on stage laying waste to the pit, a truly transformative experience.

Who has been the biggest influence on you as a musician, both on and off the stage?

Music has a funny way of finding you when you need it.

Metal music in general has always been my salvation and for that I will always be grateful.

I've had the privilege of meeting some of my musical heros and it's been a beautiful experience.

Bands like Admiral Angry, and the Abominable iron Sloth really shaped and helped me through some tough times and beautiful moments but ultimately changing my life and musical direction forever.

What's one song you've written that means the most to you personally, and why?

For me it's a song from our EP called Void, it showcases my love for heavy groove and dark atmosphere.

I'm a sucker for a heavy breakdown and this track has the lot…… a perfect storm of groove and punishment.

How has being in a metal band changed you as a person?

It has allowed me to truly express myself musically, whilst meeting a group of people who I truly would do anything for.

When you're not making music, what do you do to unwind or find inspiration?

I love to create art to go with my music, I'm very lucky to also be surrounded by an array of talented people who I'm very proud of.

I still spend a lot of time watching live music, as the Manchester scene is massive and so is the love for the community with thriving pubs and venues .
